I truly hope I live to see the day when cancer is eliminated.

Feb4th…huh? wouldn’t it be nice if we did not have to have this awareness day?
    In peace and gratitude, ariel

    1. Hi Ariel,
Thanks for stopping by and the question. Of the more than 5 million people who die every year from tobacco use, approximately 1.5 million are women (there are higher incidence of men death than that of women). There are about one billion smokers worldwide, among them about 200 million are women.

You are right that in the future we would have no Cancer Day or something like this. Every day is cancer free day.

  7. These statistics are totally shocking. So much so that I hope they shock a bunch of folks into quitting or never starting. Thank you for your commitment to getting this word out!
I grew up in a time when cigarette companies actually gave away free samples to college kids. I am so glad real information is out there thanks to folks like you!

It is time to have smoke free world. Smokers are fortunately to have so many alternatives to tobacco smoking. I am confident that the smoke free world will arrive soon, if we all work together and help each other.

  8. Some very sobering statistics indeed. Like Annie, when I grew up smoking was heavily promoted. Every night there would be hundreds of cigarette commercials on TV to get people to buy their brand. When I was in the Army they even included cigarettes in our c-rations. Airlines would give you a four pack of cigarettes when you got on an airplane. it was crazy and no one talked about how harmful smoking was.

    1. Hi Craig,
Thanks for sharing smoking history with us. It is no one’s fault and something like smoking takes time to understand and takes time for all of us to test and to approve it is bad or good. Unfortunately, after half century’s test, we have firm approval of the danger of the smoking, still there are about one billion people in the world smoke. This is the reason I set up this website to educate the public the danger of smoking. With efforts from all us, I am confident that there will be a smoke free world soon.

  9. Hi Anthony. Thank you for enlightening us with these stats. It is clear that whether we like it or not smoking affects everyone as you stated in this post. As responsible citizens of our societies we ought to play a part in alerting those who struggle with nicotine addiction on just how wide spread the consequences can be and that as you suggest in this post, there are healthier alternatives with far less devastating consequences.

    1. Hi Zola,
Thanks for stopping by and your support. You are right that smoking affects everyone and everyone, smoker of non-smoker, is responsible for the betterment of our society. We need to take every possible opportunity to educate smokers the danger of smoking and other healthier alternatives, such as electronic cigarettes. With all involved, I am confident that we are going have smoking free world soon.

  10. Just the fact that cancer is so widespread should alarm every smoker on this planet. The reality is we make these choices. I do have a wondering in the back of my mind though. Back in the ’70s when marijuana was banned in the United States of America, I wonder how many of the people that have gotten cancer since then could have been prevented or cured with a plant that is now coming out to have all these amazing effects, Including killing cancer?

    1. Hi Brittaney,
I am impressed by your passion on marijuana, particularly your believe of its effect on cancer. I do see a lot of reports that marijuana cure some cancer patients. You are right that patients should have the right to choose whatever products for their benefits. I am happy to see the trend of marijuana usage. I wish that marijuana could be available for anyone who would like to treat their illness.

  11. Hello there Anthony,
WOW, these stats are mind-blowing. I remember years ago before the world started becoming ‘smoking conscious’, they would talk about the effects of smoking on non-smokers. Now, seeing your stats where 27% of cancer patients never smoked, it really makes you think about smoking on a whole and its effect.
    Thanks for sharing.
    Michelle
