Non-Toxic Smoking

We rebrand smoking as toxic and non-toxic brands. Strictly speaking, there is no “non-toxic” or safe smoking. The non-toxic we describe here is relative to the conventional tobacco smoking, the toxic brand, which results in the generation of thousands of chemical compounds, including hundreds of toxic substances. The non-toxic smoking is relatively healthy alternative smoking.

Key component in the non-toxic smoking is nicotine or nicotine-like substances. Nicotine is a stimulant, causes the human body to release pleasurable chemicals, such as, acetylcholine, dopamine, endorphins, and enkephalins, epinephrine, norepinephrine, and serotonin etc., and generates high effects in human body.

The alternative smoking satisfies nicotine cravings without the danger of lung cancer, heart disease, or other diseases associated with the tobacco smoking. The followings are the examples of non-toxic smoking.

Acupuncture and Acupressure

The acupuncture points or acupressure points and acupuncture points chart or acupressure points chart are well-established. When these points are stimulated, the smooth flows of vital life energy are activated, stimulants are released, and nicotine factors are achieved.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy

The thought you have determines the action you take. What your think about smoking has a significant impact on your behavior. Cognitive Behavior Therapy focuses on changing thinking patterns on smoking. Once you have changed the way you think and feel about smoking, a change in your behavior, quit smoking, should follow.

Herb

Many herbs have a similar action on the nervous system as nicotine, making them useful nicotine substitutes for smokers who quit smoking with nicotine withdrawal symptoms.

Hypnosis

Hypnosis is concentrated relaxation and allows a person to relax, while focusing on a particular problem. Hypnosis techniques can tackle the problem of the desire for cigarettes and the urge to smoke. Smokers are often asked to imagine unpleasant outcomes from smoking and thus create desire to quit the bad habit.

Nicotine Gel

Nicotine Gel, also known as nicotine cream. In the gel, there is nicotine. All you need to do is dispense gel and rub onto your skin. You get your nicotine effect by absorbing nicotine from skin into blood stream.

Nicotine Gum

Nicotine Gum likes ordinary chewing gum. The gum in the mouth releases nicotine, which is absorbed into the body through the mucous membranes. It tastes very different from regular gum and has tingling or peppery, because it contains nicotine.

Nicotine Lozenge

The use of the lozenge is similar to that of nicotine gum; it is placed between the cheek and gum tissue and allowed to dissolve. Nicotine is released into the bloodstream through the lining of the mouth.

Nicotine Patch

Nicotine Patch, or Transdermal Patch is a small patch containing nicotine, which are attached to the skin with adhesive. A patch is worn on the skin, supplying a small but steady amount of nicotine to the body.

Nicotine Pouch

Nicotine Pouch is another alternative for you who prefer to put something under your lip, releasing nicotine quickly from mucous membranes of mouth into blood stream.

Nicotine Wafer

The nicotine wafer is thin, light, pleasant-tasting disc of edible paper that contains nicotine. Placed under the tongue, it dissolves and releases its nicotine into your blood stream.

Nicotine Water

Nicotine Water is bottled water with nicotine.

Smokeless Tobacco

Many terms are used to describe smokeless tobacco products, such as oral, chewing, Chaw, dip, plug, snuff, spit, and spitless tobacco. They come in two forms: snuff and chewing tobacco.

Snuff is a fine-grain tobacco that often comes in teabag-like pouches that users “pinch” or “dip” between their lower lip and gum. Chewing tobacco comes in shredded, twisted, or “bricked” tobacco leaves that users put between their cheek and gum. Whether it’s snuff or chewing tobacco, you’re supposed to let it sit in your mouth and suck on the tobacco juices, spitting often to get rid of the saliva that builds up. This sucking and chewing allows nicotine to be absorbed into the bloodstream through the tissues in your mouth.

Electronic Cigarette

Electronic Cigarette is a small battery powered device that delivers nicotine liquid solution in a vaporized form, fog, when inhaled air activates an atomizer. It has a light at the tip that lights up with each drag. Electronic Cigarette performs similarly to traditional smoking. It looks, feels and tastes like a cigarette, and delivers all the pleasures of smoking, but it does not contain tobacco, tar or known carcinogens. Thus, electronic cigarette users enjoy nicotine, but don’t suffer from harmful chemicals like hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, and acetone.

We should point out that the last two smokings, smokeless tobacco and electronic cigarette, are reported to have association with many dangerous health effects. There two smokings are listed in the non-toxic smoking, since they are relatively safe comparing to the conventional tobacco smoking.

Hi Al, Smart choice and never touch nicotine in the first place. Some people addict to it just a few smokes. You are right that electronic cigarette and chewing tobacco are sub-optimal choices, but they are close to the tastes of the tradition tobacco smoking.

Hi Jo, Thanks for comments and congratulations on your husband. It is very difficult to quit by cold turkey way. But your husband is a very determined guy. One important thing is to let him forget about smoking. Try to arrange more group activities, don’t let me to stay some where alone for too long, and keep him busy. Have some snacks around. When he think about smoking, eat snacks, instead of smoke. If necessary, take low dose nicotine as describe in this article. Smokers are fortunately to have so many choices. Remember he need emotional supports from you. This is team work. Good luck with your endeavor.

    Hi Joe ,
I’ve had great success with the gum before ! And lots of candy and food as well! I’ve done the e-cig as well but I can’t get over the thought that putting water vapor into your lungs can’t be good for them?

    Anthony,
What are the negative efficts of vapeing ? My brother is going vape crazy! But it did cut down his smoking . Other than the health risks think of the wasted money!!!
    Thanks

Hi Mike, the vapor is very thin smog and should not harm your lungs, but give some moisture to your lung. So far there are no reported negative effects of vaping on human health. But there are some reports indicating that there are some toxic substances creating during vaping. Human beings are carried out huge experiments. We use e-cigs for about 10 years and are waiting for scientific reports on this subject more and more. But one is very clear that e-cig is much healthier than tobacco smoking.

Wow! I never knew that there were so many options available. I knew they had the patch and nicotine gum available because I see them all the time when I go into Walmart. However, I did not know that the other options existed. I like how you explained the difference and how it can help someone stop smoking and chose alternatives. The most interesting alternative to me was the nicotine water. Nicotine with water! Now that is something that I would have never known existed. Excellent job in helping so many people choose alternatives so that they can try and live a healthier happier life. I enjoyed reading your post…Anthony.

Hi Anthony. Thanks for putting up so many options about how people can reduce and ultimately stop smoking. I have never smoked but I have seen the consequences first hand of parents that have. Anything that people can do to ween themselves off cigarettes has got to be a good starting point. I would add that deep breathing can help. Many people who smoke could really benefit from just taking long deep breaths, which can help calm nerves and reduce anxiety.

Hi Gail, Thank you very much for your comment. Nowadays smokers are fortunately to have so many options to quit smoking or take alternative smoking, instead of tobacco smoking. I agree with you that one of major reasons smokers smoke is due to anxiety. Anything that reduce the anxiety of smokers should help. Deep breath is certainly one good way to reduce anxiety thus help reduce the cigarette consumption.

      Hi Annie,
Smokers nowadays are fortunately to have so many alternatives to quit smoking. If they are not ready to quit, there are some alternative smoking to choose. I wish smokers at least use healthier alternatives, such as electronic cigarettes, instead of traditional tobacco cigarettes.

Great post Anthony, and the reason for that is smoking is a health danger for anybody. The alternatives you give, although are good some are not. I think the cognitive behavior therapy would be the best and safest. The main thing is you are bringing awareness of the dangers of smoking.

It’s amazing how many different ways there are to use tobacco. My godfather did many of these things to try to quit smoking. None ever worked.

    Anthony,
It is good to know there are no so many ways to quit smoking. My sister has tried to quit a few times and has been unsuccessful so far. The nice thing is, with so many methods to try, I’m sure she will find something that works for her. I will let her know about the Cognitive Behavior Therapy, it sounds like something that might work.

    Hi Fred,
Thank you very much for your encouragement. I agree with you that Cognitive behavior therapy is the safest and cheapest way to quit smoking, if you have determined mind to act.
Somehow, people are different and have wide different perception on quit smoking approaches. It is important to provide choices. As long as moving away from tobacco smoking, it is a big step forward to a healthier choice.
